Before the pandemic of COVID-19 hit in March, I hosted the 5th annual Galentine’s Day brunch along with my three sisters. Looking back, I am so glad that I went all out and did the brunch in a big a beautiful way. Usually, I am low-key with the décor and gifts, but this year, I was compelled to go the extra step and shower my tribe of strong and phenomenal women with the best from the food and sweet treats to the location of the restaurant.
2019 was a tough year for me. Pregnant with my second child, I had put my business on hold to focus on me and my family. However, being a planner, I am always thinking of ways to bring people together and creating moments and experiences that make life joyful and fun. The one thing I had to hold on to was Galentine’s Day since it is my way of telling all of the amazing women in my life that I appreciate and care for them. The focus of the design was spring and new beginnings so I teamed up with Abby from Pretty Posh Events to put together florals that would represent that. My favorite element of the whole floral arrangement was the orchids at each place setting since orchids are one of my favorite flowers and the flower itself stands for love, luxury, beauty and strength.
The overall day was simply beautiful from the not-so-cold February weather to the 50 question ice-breaker challenge that got the ladies up and mingling around with each other. The best part was seeing the similarities between people who were meeting each other for the first time. It just goes to show that we are more alike than we think we are.
The Galentine’s Day brunch is a true labor of love for me and looking back at the event this year, I am so humbled and touched by the many people that I get to call my friends. Being about five months into this quarantine life is showing so many of us the importance of relationships. We are social creatures, but in this age of Instagram, Facebook, 24/7 work schedules and simply not feeling that we have the time, the connections that we used to have with our family and friends was not as strong as it used to be. Even for me, I struggle with putting together the brunch since I get the feeling that perhaps no one really cares about getting dressed up and spending a few hours with each other. However, each year, I am proven wrong and I have a feeling that once we are able to safely be around people again, that events – both big and small – will become more prominent in our lives. Until then, I will be happily making plans for the 6th Galentine’s Day brunch and look forward to seeing all of my girls again.
